Keep my medication list and questions for my doctor

Your assistant keeps a list of your medicines and helps you write down questions before a doctor visit.

Works today

Nothing to connect. You only text your assistant.

Suggested tools

You can set these up yourself. Get the app, follow the steps, then copy the prompt.

  • Apple Health (Medications)

    Free

The Medications part of the Health app. It keeps your list and can remind you on your iPhone.

    Download for iPhone

    1. Open the Health app, tap Search, then tap Medications.
    2. Tap Add Medication and type the name, or use the camera on the label (camera is for the U.S. only).
    3. Take a screenshot of Your Medications. If you see Export Medications List PDF, you can use that instead.
    4. Text the screenshot to your assistant, or upload the PDF on your private files page.

Copy this prompt and give it to your assistant

    • I want to keep my medication list in the Health app and share it with you. Walk me through it one step at a time and wait for me after each step: in Health I tap Search, then Medications, add each medicine, then send a screenshot of Your Medications. Then save it as my list and help me write 5 questions for my next doctor visit.

Your assistant can read a name or dose wrong, so check the list against your bottles. It does not tell you to start, stop or change a medicine.

  • Medisafe

Free. Optional Premium: $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year.

A pill reminder app. It keeps your list and reminds you when it is time.

    Download for iPhoneDownload for Android

    1. Add your medicines in Medisafe and let it remind you.
    2. Easy way: take a screenshot of your medicine list and text it to your assistant.
    3. Full way: tap Manage, then Report, then Send. Put in your own email and pick the dates.
    4. Save the report from your email and upload it on your private files page.

Copy this prompt and give it to your assistant

    • I use Medisafe for my medicines and I want you to have my list. Walk me through it one step at a time and wait for me after each step. The easy way is a screenshot of my medicine list. The full way is Manage, Report, Send to my own email, then I upload the report to my files page. Then update my medication list and show it to me so I can check it.

Use Medisafe for the reminders, not your assistant. Your assistant does not check if medicines are safe together.

What to text

  • Start a medication list for me. I will send photos of the labels.

  • Here is a photo of a pill bottle. Add the name, the dose and how often to my list.

  • Show me my medication list. I want to copy it for my doctor.

  • I see my doctor on Thursday about my knee. Help me write 5 questions to ask.

  • After my visit: the doctor said to come back in 3 months and get a blood test first. Save that.

Steps

  1. Text: "Start a medication list for me."
  2. Send a photo of each label. Or type the name, the dose and how often you take it.
  3. Read the list back. Check every name and dose against the label yourself.
  4. Before a visit, tell it why you are going. Ask for questions to bring.
  5. Take a screenshot of the list and the questions. Show them at the visit.
  6. After the visit, text what the doctor said so it is saved.

Example conversation

You:

I see my doctor on Thursday about my knee. Help me write 5 questions to ask.

Your assistant:

Here are 5 questions you could bring:
1. What do you think is causing the pain?
2. Do I need any tests?
3. What can I do at home to help it?
4. Is it safe to keep walking for exercise?
5. When should I come back?

Do you want me to add your medication list at the bottom?

You:

Yes.

Your assistant:

Done. Your questions and your medication list are in one note. Check the doses against your labels before you show it.

This is an example. The words your assistant uses will be different.

Make it stick

  • Update the list the same day a medicine changes.
  • Keep a screenshot of the list on your phone. It helps at the pharmacy and in an emergency.
  • Want a text when it is time for a pill? That needs the reminders add-on. Do not make it your only reminder for medicine.

What it will not do

It does not tell you to start, stop or change a medicine or a dose. It does not check if medicines are safe together. It can read a label wrong, so check the list against your bottles. Ask your pharmacist or doctor.

Demo notice

During a demo, do not send passwords, card numbers or private customer details. Read the demo rules.

Your health

Talk to your doctor before you change a medicine, start hard exercise with a health condition, or follow a strict diet.
