What to text

I need to call my doctor's office to change my appointment. Write what I should say in English.
Write it shorter and with easy words. Put the Spanish under each line.
What might they ask me? What do I answer?
Practice with me. You are the person who answers the phone.
How do I ask them to speak more slowly?

Steps

Text who you are calling and what you want. One sentence is enough.
Ask for a short script in English with Spanish under each line.
Ask what they might say back, and how to answer.
Practice once. Your assistant plays the other person.
Keep the script on your screen while you call. Read it slowly.

Example conversation

You:

I need to call the electric company. My bill is too high this month.

Your assistant:

Say this: "Hello, my name is Zoila. I am calling about my bill. It is much higher than last month. Can you check it, please?" Want the Spanish under each line?

You:

Yes. And how do I ask them to talk slower?

Your assistant:

"Can you speak more slowly, please?" You can also ask: "Do you have someone who speaks Spanish?"

This is an example. The words your assistant uses will be different.

Make it stick

Have your account number and a pen ready before you call.
After the call, text what they said. Your assistant helps you with the next step.

What it will not do

It does not make the call for you and it does not listen to the call. It writes what to say. You call.
