Keep a to-do list

You text what you need to do, and your assistant keeps the list and reads it back any time.

Works today

Nothing to connect. You only text your assistant.

Suggested tools

You can set these up yourself. Get the app, follow the steps, then copy the prompt.

  • Apple Reminders

    Free

The to-do list app that comes on every iPhone.

    Download for iPhoneOpen the website

    1. Open Reminders and open the list you want help with.
    2. Take a screenshot. If the list is long, take two.
    3. Text the screenshots to your assistant with the prompt below.

Copy this prompt and give it to your assistant

    • My to-do list is in the Reminders app on my iPhone and I want to move it to you. Walk me through it one step at a time and wait for me after each step: open the list, take a screenshot (two if it is long) and send it here. Then save these as my to-do list and tell me which 3 to do first.

It cannot add, check off or change anything inside the Reminders app.

What to text

  • Add to my to-do list: call the supplier on Monday.

  • What is on my to-do list?

  • Mark "call the supplier" as done.

  • Add 3 things: renew the van registration, order boxes, pay the water bill.

  • Which things on my list are the oldest?

  • Clean up my list. Take off what is done.

Steps

  1. Text: "Add to my to-do list:" and then the thing.
  2. Add things the moment you think of them. One text each is fine.
  3. To see the list, text: "What is on my to-do list?"
  4. When you finish something, text: "Mark it as done."
  5. Once a week, ask it to clean up the list.

Use TickTick? Connect it once

  1. Text: "Send me my private page." Open the link and tap the Connections tab.
  2. In TickTick on the web, open Settings, then Account, then API Token. Create a token and copy it.
  3. Paste it in the TickTick box on that page and tap Connect. The key goes on your private page, never in a text. If you paste it in chat, your assistant will not take it.
  4. Then ask: "What is on my TickTick list?" or "Add order boxes to TickTick."

Example conversation

You:

Add 3 things: renew the van registration, order boxes, pay the water bill.

Your assistant:

Added 3 things. Your to-do list now has 4:
1. Call the supplier on Monday
2. Renew the van registration
3. Order boxes
4. Pay the water bill

You:

Mark the water bill as done.

Your assistant:

Done. 3 things left on your list.

This is an example. The words your assistant uses will be different.

Make it stick

  • Use one list, not five. One list is easy to check.
  • Ask "What is on my list?" every morning. It does not text you first.
  • Your list is saved with your assistant. To see your files, send /home. See Lists, notes and your files page.

What it will not do

It connects to TickTick from your private page. It does not connect to Apple Reminders or Todoist. To move one of those lists over, send a screenshot of it. Your own list lives with your assistant. It does not remind you on its own unless the reminders add-on is on.
