A morning check-in I start myself

You text "Good morning" and your assistant walks you through the same short questions every day.

Works today

Nothing to connect. You only text your assistant.

Suggested tools

You can set these up yourself. Get the app, follow the steps, then copy the prompt.

  • Clock

    Free

The alarm app that is already on your phone.

    Download for iPhoneDownload for Android

    1. Open Clock, tap Alarms, then tap the plus button.
    2. Pick the time you want to check in. Under Repeat, pick the days.
    3. Under Label, type: Text good morning. Save it.
    4. When the alarm rings, text Good morning to your assistant.

Copy this prompt and give it to your assistant

    • Set up a morning check-in. When I text Good morning, ask me these one at a time: How did I sleep? What do I have to do today? What is one thing for me? I set an alarm on my phone so I remember to text you.

The alarm only reminds you. Your assistant does not text you first unless the reminders add-on is on.

  • Apple Calendar

    Free

The calendar app that comes on every iPhone.

    Download for iPhoneOpen the website

    1. Before you text Good morning, open Calendar on today.
    2. Take a screenshot.
    3. Text the screenshot with the prompt below.

Copy this prompt and give it to your assistant

    • I want to start my morning check-in with my calendar. Walk me through it one step at a time and wait for me after each step: each morning I open Calendar on today, take a screenshot and send it with Good morning. Use it when you ask me my check-in questions and when you make my short plan.

It only sees what is in the picture and it does not add anything to your calendar.

What to text

  • Set up a morning check-in. When I text "Good morning", ask me: How did I sleep? What do I have to do today? What is one thing for me?

  • Good morning

  • Change my check-in. Add: Did I take my pills?

  • Evening check-in: what did I get done today?

  • Look at my check-ins from this week. What do you notice?

Steps

  1. Text the questions you want to be asked each morning. Keep it to 3 or 4.
  2. Ask it to remember them as your morning check-in.
  3. Each morning, text "Good morning."
  4. Answer the questions. Short answers are fine.
  5. It gives you a short plan for the day from your answers.

Example conversation

You:

Good morning

Your assistant:

Good morning. How did you sleep?

You:

Okay. 6 hours.

Your assistant:

What do you have to do today?

You:

Two deliveries and call the landlord.

Your assistant:

Got it. Call the landlord first, before the deliveries. It is the one that is easy to put off. What is one thing for you today?

This is an example. The words your assistant uses will be different.

Make it stick

  • Your assistant does not text you first. You start it. Tie it to something you already do, like your first coffee.
  • Keep it short. Three questions you answer every day beat ten you skip.
  • Missed a few days? Just text "Good morning" again. No need to catch up.

Good to know

Your assistant only texts you first if reminders are on. Otherwise it answers when you text it. Reminders are an add-on. Reminders and website lookups cannot both be on for the same assistant today.
